A blind architect student uses her own experience of visual impairment to design urban spaces that are “more accessible for all.”

Emily Annakin, 23, has lost most of her sight through Stargardt disease – a form of juvenile macular degeneration which means she has no central vision.

She is now a UWE Bristol Architecture and Planning student and as part of her final degree course redesigned part of Bristol Harbourside.

Emily, from Wolverhampton, said: “Being blind has given me a different perspective on how people interact with their environment, and I want to use that to create a more inclusive and accessible urban space.

“Everyone experiences space differently, whether you have a visual impairment or physical impairment, whether you’re neurodivergent, living with dementia, male, female, young or old.
