Neighbors in Birmingham’s Central City area are getting ready to welcome a business. The Birmingham City Council approved a license for a new upscale lounge on First Avenue on Tuesday.Cru Lounge and Casanova sat on the same street where this new spot is expected to open, but because of previous issues both either closed or relocated.The debate between business owners and residents during the meeting was lengthy. That’s because the downtown area had issues with safety like shootings and street racing. The council listened to those concerns from the community for more than an hour.“We make sacrifices with noise, sirens, street traffic, runners, parades—we sign up for that,” Bernie Smith, a Central City neighbor, said. “Someone bringing something into your neighborhood or my neighborhood that is a distraction and creates a bad issue for our neighborhood in a mostly residential block is just something we’re all very concerned about.”City leaders …
