MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) – Berkeley County is launching a new homeownership development program in August to fund affordable housing projects throughout the county.

This initiative is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s HOME Investment Partnerships Program.

In total, Berkeley County has received a total HOME allocation of $1,506,597.99.

This program year the county received an allocation of $437,612.99.

The program is part of the county’s new Home Investment Partnerships Program, which helps developers fund affordable housing projects.

The county is set to receive this HOME funding from Housing and Urban Development annually going forward.

The program funds a wide range of activities including building, buying and rehabilitating affordable housing for rent and homeownership or providing direct rental assistance to low-income people.
