BELTON, Texas — In the heart of Bell County, a local initiative is stitching together warmth and compassion for the community’s most vulnerable.
Hook’d on Humanity, founded by Nellie Bracho during the pandemic in 2020, is dedicated to crafting scarves, blankets and hats for individuals facing homelessness and others in need.
Bracho started the project during the isolation of COVID-19 as a way to combat her own struggles with depression and to bring comfort to others.
“Helping people is almost a cure-all for anything emotional that you’re struggling with,” Bracho said.
The organization began with a small goal of crafting 30 scarves in its first year. Today, Hook’d on Humanity has grown significantly, with volunteers creating over 100 scarves last year to distribute by October. The scarves and blankets are gifted to local shelters, foster children, maternity …
