Belton, Texas ISD hosts Night of Champions Jan. 15 [Video]

Belton ISD hosted its annual Night of Champions event which gives athletes with special education needs a chance to compete on the court.

TEMPLE, Texas — District play continues to heat up for teams in Central Texas, but on Wednesday, Belton ISD took a step away from the playbook and focused on giving back in their annual Night of Champions event.

Night of Champions creates an opportunity for athletes who receive special education support to compete, learn and grow in the game of basketball.

“It’s bigger than basketball and it’s not even just sports, it’s community, it’s understanding that differences do not mean less dignity,” Belton girls basketball head coach Annemarie Zuilhof said. “It’s really important to extend a helping hand, use what you have, like what we have is our sport to grow the ones around us.”
