Labor will confront big tech companies with a barrage of new laws to enforce the national interest on challenges ranging from misinformation to artificial intelligence and a tech tax, in a series of moves to follow a contentious plan to impose age limits on social media.
The plans include a potential levy on tech companies to fund compensation for news providers who lose money to search engines and social media platforms that use their content, dramatically escalating the government’s stoush with powerful global giants.
