Beamer officially names LaNorris Sellers Gamecocks starting quarterback [Video]

SOUTH CAROLINA, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – In a moved that had been expected for months, South Carolina Football Head Coach Shane Beamer officially named LaNorris Sellers the team’s starting quarterback for the season-opener against Old Dominion during a press conference Tuesday.

While the redshirt freshman Sellers is the opening-day starter, Beamer also said he feels they have more than one quarterback they can win with including Auburn transfer Robby Ashford.

Sellers replaces Spencer Rattler who was the Gamecocks starting quarterback for two seasons before being drafted by the NFL’s New Orleans Saints.

As a senior at South Florence High School, Sellers led the team to a state championship while throwing for 45 touchdowns and only two interceptions.

He also threw for almost 3,000 yards that season while rushing for 17 touchdowns and more than 1,300 yards.
