A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Saturday at 6:12 p.m. for strong thunderstorms until 7 p.m. for Harney County.
Residents should prepare for wind gusts of up to 55 mph.
“At 6:12 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm near Butler Hill, or 57 miles south of Burns, moving north at 30 mph,” states the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”
Expect strong thunderstorms in Walls Lake Reservoir around 6:20 p.m.
The weather service states, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.”
