A BBC Breakfast star addressed a cruel jibe made about her appearance, with fans of the programme quickly jumping to her defence.

Today’s broadcast (December 1) saw Luxmy Gopal co-hosting from the iconic red sofa, alongside Ben Thompson. The pair had made a subtle nod to the December date with Ben sporting a seasonal red tie, and Luxmy donning a sumptuous pleated purple dress.

But just minutes into the show, Luxmy shared on her social media account that she had received a negative comment about her choice of attire. She disclosed that somebody had likened her outfit to “the Quality Street purple one.”

In a post to X, formerly Twitter, she wrote: “Good morning from me and Ben Thompson on BBC Breakfast. Him in a festive red tie, me looking like the Quality Streeet purple one as someone pointed out.”
