Baby giraffe dies at Abilene Zoo [Video]

ABILENE, Texas — A giraffe died at the Abilene Zoo Wednesday, the zoo said in a press release.

Her name was Baby Giraffe Zahara and she was born on July 20.

The Abilene Zoo said she died after suffering from a leg fracture, but the cause of the injury is undetermined.

The medical team on site tried to perform emergency care on Baby Zahara, however, despite the strong efforts, she passed away.

“We are devastated by this tragic loss,” said Robert Trejo, the general curator for the Abilene Zoo. “Zahara brought immense joy to our zoo family and the community. We appreciate the overwhelming support and love shown for Zahara since her birth, and our hearts go out to everyone who felt a connection to her, especially …
