Authorities release name of suspect in school shooting in Madison [Video]

MADISON, Wis. (WSAW/WMTV) – Authorities have released new details about a shooting Monday morning at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison.

In a press conference at 8:30 p.m., Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes identified the suspected shooter as 15-year-old Natalie “Samantha” Rupnow. She died while being taken to an area hospital. The shooting happened around 11 a.m. in a classroom during a study hall session.

correction: NewsChannel 7 erroneously published an Associated Press announcement that the suspected shooter was a 17-year-old female student. The Madison PD has announced the suspect is 15.

He said a second-grade student was the one who dialed 911. Police arrived within four minutes.

Office of School Safety Director Trish Kilpin said during the press conference that the Speak Up Speak Out (SUSO) tipline has received an increased number of tips throughout the day.
