Austintown woman killed in Smith Township hit skip crash [Video]

Ohio State Troopers have identified the pedestrian killed in a hit skip crash in Smith Township Wednesday evening.

Troopers have identified the victim as 48-year-old Catherine Ruggly of Austintown. Troopers say was walking east on Alliance Sebring Road in dark clothing when an SUV struck her causing her to land in a watery ditch. 

She was transported to the hospital, where she died. 

Troopers say the vehicle came to a brief stop, but then continued traveling eastbound towards Sebring.

The Canfield Highway Patrol Post is working to identify the victim, and are searching for the driver of the SUV. 

The SUV is expected to have possible damage on the front right of the vehicle. Parts of the vehicle were located at the scene of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

The Sebring Police Department, Smith Township Police Department and Smith Township Fire and EMS all assisted at the scene.
