Austin Pets Alive! asks for short-term fosters amid winter weather [Video]

AUSTIN, Texas — As Central Texas temperatures decrease, it’s not just humans who need an escape from the cold. Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) is asking for short or long-term fosters for over 100 dogs. 

The nonprofit said those who sign up can take a dog between Jan. 6 and Jan. 12 to help keep the animals away from outdoor crates. 

“Our priority is to get the outdoor enclosure animals at the APA! Town Lake Shelter in warm homes,” APA! Public Relations Director Luis Sanchez said. “Our animals are safe, warm and cared for, but a home is significantly more comfortable than an outdoor kennel.” 

Anyone 18 or older can apply to become a foster. Responsibilities include providing food and water, exercise and a safe space for a dog to stay.
