AUSTIN, Minn. – Hormel Foods hosted their ‘Nourishing Champion’ Food Packing Event at Austin High School. Around 1,500 students packed MATTERBox Snack Packs.
It will go to more than ten Mower County schools and the United Way of Mower County will also get a portion of the boxes for their food shelves. Director of Marketing Jason Baskin says food insecurity is a big issue.
“Unfortunately here in Mower County and throughout the country kids just don’t have enough access to great nutritious food so this not only positively impacts the kids it impacts their learning,” said Baskin.
Counselor Emily Hovland says when kids are well fed it helps them academically.
“When they have the nourishment that they need and they have that food it really helps them to be awake alert and more focused,” …
