AUSTIN, Minn. – A nearly century-old building in Austin is getting ready for a $4.3 million facelift. The historic Paramount Theatre was built in 1929, actually residing on the same site of a theatre that was destroyed by a tornado.
Over the years, it’s been used as a movie theatre, disco night club, bar, and now as a live venue for theatre productions, concerts, and other performances.
Debra Dsouza says, “I remember coming here and we went to the movies here all the time as a kid, I remember the last one was 2001: A Space Odyssey.”
Now, a $4.3 million project is working to capture more life-long memories. The Hormel Foundation donated $3.67 million dollars towards the cause. Austin Area Arts is working to fundraise the remaining $1.2 million. …
