Atlanta leaders planning affordable housing development for West End [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – New plans were just announced to bring hundreds of new affordable housing units to the West End area to enhance the community and bring opportunity.

Residents said the development plan is long overdue. They’ve wanted to see progress to reduce crime, and to bolster business and community life.

“I think it’s well needed. I think it will help out a lot of people that are working hard struggling,” said Jermon Dash, owner of The Hill Social restaurant.

Dash said it’s time the west side of Atlanta got a second chance to be prosperous.

“Just going to the store to get some milk you can get killed and robbed. Hopefully, building up the community changes some of that,” Dash said.

Crime statistics from the Atlanta Police Department show last year there were at least five people murdered in the area and 58 victims of aggravated assault.
