Asst. police chief no longer employed at MPD, city officials announce [Video]

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Assistant Memphis Police Chief Shawn Jones is no longer employed with the Memphis Police Department, city officials announced during a press conference Monday evening.

Jones served in the role since September 2021 but remained in Georgia, where he previously served as assistant police chief for the Atlanta Police Department until his retirement.

Although he still had a residence in Georgia, MPD Interim Police Chief CJ Davis said he lived in Memphis, in the Harbortown area, and went to work every day.

According to interim Davis, Jones never intended to live in Memphis as assistant police chief permanently, but she stressed that the city’s decision had nothing to do with his residency.

This was a decision Memphis Mayor Paul Young said he made around budget season.

“As of today, he will no longer be with the city, and it was not due to any issues or concerns around residency,” he said.
