Ashland noise ordinance amendment passes second reading | Community [Video]

ASHLAND, Ore. — Ashland streets may be getting a little louder in summer months. 

The city passed the second reading of the amendment, which would allow earlier working hours for construction crews during summer months. 

City work such as street crews and parks and recreation work would be able to begin as early as 5 a.m. in order to combat extreme summer heat and to follow OSHA guidelines. 

“I feel that it is incumbent on us to provide a workplace that is supportive of them,” said Ashland Mayor Tonya Graham. “Especially in light of the extreme heat events that we have been experiencing progressively over the last series of years.”

Mayor Graham also said she believes an important step to follow next is to create community awareness next spring to ensure the community knows rules are being followed during the summertime.
