ASHLAND, Ore. – The Ashland Chamber of Commerce says the people visiting the city are changing – and are working to preserve Ashland’s destination status amid a slower month for tourism.
Katharine Cato, the director of Travel Ashland within the Chamber of Commerce, told NewsWatch 12 that the city is seeing younger visitors who are seeking out opportunities for outdoor recreation. The chamber is leaning into partnerships with Mt. Ashland and other outdoor access providers.
“One of our personas is that outdoor traveler,” Cato said. “It’s a very strong persona for Ashland and it’s one that’s been growing.”
Cato said Ashland’s tourism is seasonally driven, with May and June having a higher amount of visitors before dropping down in August in part due to wildfire season. …
