A major internet and cellular outage has been impacting folks in the city and borough of Sitka. KCAW Raven Radio reports that cell and internet service went out for Sitkans Thursday. The following day, GCI posted to social media that it was investigating a break in a subsea fiber optic cable. Despite the outage, Sitka Police says 9-1-1 calls are still getting through on landlines and cell phones. Public wi-fi is also available at the Sitka Public Library for those who need it.

Fairbanks International Airport shared a photo of its robot dog named Aurora from a recent training session by the Float Pond. The 72-pound robot that’s about the size of a Labrador retriever is meant to help keep birds and other wildlife off the airport runways in Fairbanks.
