AROUND ALASKA: Meals Fundraiser, Community Feast, and Uki! | Around Alaska [Video]

A fundraiser is underway in Fairbanks to help seniors who need food assistance. The Fairbanks Senior Center has launched an end-of-the-year fundraiser to help support its Meals on Wheels program. Center officials say the program experienced an $82,000 reduction in funding this year. With a waitlist of 50 people, they’re boldly hoping to raise $200,000 to make sure every senior who needs a hot meal can get one.

Meanwhile, Fairbanks has just received a big federal grant to enhance airline service. Officials say the $900,000 grant from the Department of Transportation will be used to help attract more visitors to the city by boosting tourism. Fairbanks is one of only 14 communities across the country to be awarded one of these grants.

Preparations are underway for the 4th Community Feast at UASin Juneau. It’s planned for next week on Tuesday, November 19, at the Native and Rural Student Center on campus. It’s a chance for students, faculty, and the community to connect …
