Arizona organizations demand state transparency [Video]

PHOENIX, Ariz. (13 News) – Gov. Katie Hobbs said she’s confident in resuming executions due to a report done by the Arizona Department of Corrections.

“No decision carries more weight, than killing a human being, by our government,” said John Fabricius with Arizonans for Transparency and Accountability in Corrections.

However, at the state capitol Wednesday, Arizona organizations came together to push for transparency and call for Hobbs to release a separate report on executions.

“We don’t want to face up to the fact that we as a state are engaging in a fundamentally barbaric practice,” said local Tucsonan Caroline Isaacs, executive director for Just Communities Arizona.

Hobbs ended a year-long review into the state’s execution protocols after firing retired judge Davis Duncan, whom she appointed.

But only parts of Duncan’s report were released to the public.
