TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – On Tuesday’s election, voters rejected Anthony Wayne Schools levy by a margin of fewer than 100 votes, according to unofficial vote totals. However, with roughly 8,000 provisional and absentee ballots in Lucas County yet to be counted, the levy could still pass.
“You know it was disappointing,” Anthony Wayne District Treasurer Kerri Johnson said of the initial results. “We were just hopeful. We’ve tried really hard to build relationships with the community, gain school support, get that positive vibe back that Anthony Wayne is known for, and we really thought we were going down that track.”
The levy is the third ballot measure the district has attempted to pass in the past year. Each one has been rejected by voters, leading the district to cut roughly $2 million from its budget going into this school year. The district also introduced pay-to-play for sports to bring in extra revenue.
