Anchorage Hosts FIRE OPS 101: Community, Journalists, & Firefighters Unite | Homepage [Video]

Community members, journalists, and firefighters from across the state recently came together in Anchorage.

The Anchorage Fire Department hosted an event called FIRE OPS 101. It’s a national program meant to help folks learn firsthand what it means and what it takes to be a firefighter.

Lawmakers, like Representative Maxine Dibert in the Fairbanks area, were also invited to take part in the event.

“I learned so much today and the best lesson was one of empathy- while I had plenty of respect and reverence for our public servants before this, today I gained so much more. Our firefighters are amazing. They put fear aside and take huge risks every day and they ask for no special recognition or reward. Thank you for offering up this great experience. We are all indebted to you for your commitment and service to our communities,” she said on Facebook.
