Amherst standoff now ruled as a death investigation [Video]

AMHERST, Wis. (WSAW) – The Portage County Sheriff’s Office says the standoff in Amherst has concluded and they have located the man who has been inside a home since Thursday.

Jeffery Miller, 32, was wanted by authorities in several south-central Wisconsin counties. Since Thursday night, law enforcement has been involved in a standoff with him.

In a statement, Portage County Sheriff Mike Lukas said the shelter-in-place order was lifted around 5:30 p.m. when Special Response Teams were able to locate Miller in the home at 450 Mill Street. He stated the situation is now a death investigation and will be handled by the Department of Criminal Investigations. The Sheriff’s Office did not specify why the situation is now a death investigation.

Sheriff Lukas said during the standoff, several shots were fired toward law enforcement, which resulted in no injuries. No officers fired any weapons.
