Amherst lodge honors Martin, Monk for building community [Video]

The Clinton Masonic Lodge presented Community Builders’ awards to Amherst residents Tom Martin and Suny Monk on Sept. 19.

Martin, the District 1 representative on the Amherst County Board of Supervisors, has spent countless hours training, answering calls, fighting fires and protecting property as volunteer chief of the Amherst Fire Department, a statement from the lodge said.

Monk has been “resourceful, inventive and tireless” in her efforts with Second Stage Amherst, a nonprofit venue that operates on 194 Second St., Amherst, in a former church building, the lodge’s statement said.

Martin is in his second term on the board. Monk recently stepped down as president of the Second Stage board of directors, a role she held for 10 years, and she remains active in the local arts community.
