AMES, Iowa — The Ames Police Department is investigating after a man claimed he was shot in west Ames, according to a press release.
Police received a report of the sound of gunshots on Mortensen Road just after 11:10 p.m. on Thursday. When they arrived at the scene, officers were unable to locate a victim or crime scene.
Less than an hour later, police received word from MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center that a gunshot victim had arrived with nonlife-threatening injuries.
The victim told investigators he was shot in the lower body by “an unknown person.”
Police believe there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing.
