Amendment G and IM-28 sponsor has his sights already on 2026 [Video]

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The sponsor behind two failed ballot measures is wasting no time after a disappointing Election Day.

Dakotans for Health Co-Founder Rick Weiland is making a push aimed at what he called preserving ballot initiative rights.

Before the results even came in on Tuesday, Weiland sent out a press release in which he planned to have two constitutional amendments, part of a “Direct Democracy Package.”

Here’s what South Dakotans could be voting on in 2026.

The first ballot measure proposed will look to ensure that laws impacting South Dakota’s ballot initiative process only take effect after receiving voter approval in the next general election.

In the second measure, the legislature would not be able to alter any law adopted by a vote of the people for at least seven years after that vote.
