WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Amazon is looking to deliver a multi-story distribution center and parking garage on the Waterbury-Naugatuck border.
Leaders held a meeting Tuesday night to discuss the permit process and project, which were met with some frustration from residents.
Ruth Barry, 95, has lived on Longmeadow Drive in Waterbury for 67 years — and many of them were spent fighting for her so-called quiet community.
“[Officials have] tried to do a dog track, a shopping mall, a casino [in the past],” Barry said. “Now, an Amazon building.”
Barry said the warehouse would impact traffic, lighting and the value of the residential area.
“We’re all concerned about our houses,” Barry said. “We’re concerned about the noise.”
Bluewater Property Group is handling the development, which includes more than 150 acres inside the valley’s existing industrial park.
Waterbury Mayor Paul Pernerewski said he understands the concerns, but leaders plan on complying with regulations, like light barriers.
