All members of the Tufts University men’s lacrosse team who were hospitalized for a rare condition brought on by high-intensity exercise over a short period of time have now been discharged. They were treated for rhabdomyolysis also known as rhabdo, after the workout. That condition occurs when muscle tissue breaks down and releases its contents into the bloodstream.The voluntary, supervised, 45-minute team workout was led by a Tufts University alum who is a graduate of the BUD/S Navy SEAL training program. Approximately 50 people participated in the workout, according to Tufts spokesperson Patrick Collins.According to previous statements from Tufts University, all participants were evaluated by medical professionals. University officials originally said 12 players developed rhabdo and later said that nine required hospitalization.
