Albuquerque city council looks to make housing development easier [Video]

Albuquerque City Councilors plan to discuss an amendment to the city’s zoning ordinance Monday night. The amendment is an adjustment to the city’s Integrated Development Ordinance that replaced the city’s zoning code and other development sectors in 2018. Both Councilors Dan Lewis and Joaquín Baca sponsored the bill, writing, “Whereas wholesale replacement of the City’s zoning code has had some unintended consequences, which have imposed substantial burdens on City staff and developers; and… the city has a housing and homelessness crisis that has been exacerbated by some provisions in the IDO…”Jordon McConnell, the communications chair for Strong Towns Abq, said this new amendment would be good for the thousands of housing units Albuquerque needs. “This bill — it’s a step in that direction.
