From salmon to halibut, Alaska offers nearly every type of fishing opportunity. The All Hands on Deck event brings together harvesters, processors, and participants from around the world.
The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) states that the fishing industry is the backbone of the state and plays a key role in its economy. Jeremy Woodrow, the Executive Director of ASMI, shares his insights on the industry.
“The Alaska seafood industry is the largest private employer in the state. It employs over 17,000 directly in the fisheries,” he said.
Jeremy also shared some of the challenges the industry faces.
“One of the most important things that we see that they’re looking for is convenience. And that’s an area where I would say that seafood has struggled versus our competitors such as land-based proteins.”
