The community was divided in support or against the Ala Pono Pedestrian Bridge at a meeting at Ala Wai Elementary School about the proposed project.

HONOLULU (Island News) — A meeting was held to update folks in Moiliili and Waikiki about a pedestrian bridge set to be built across the Ala Wai Canal in the coming years.

Dozens and dozens of people packed the Ala Wai Elementary School cafeteria on Wednesday night to talk about a proposed pedestrian bridge across the Ala Wai canal, and the crowd was sharply divided.

This bridge will be a first of its kind. On the Ala Wai at the end of University Avenue, the bridge would link up with Moiliili. On the other side at Kalaimoku Street, the bridge will touch down on the Waikiki side.
