Airlines struggle to resume normal operations after global IT outage [Video]

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Airlines are still recovering from a global IT outage Friday, with thousands of flights canceled and thousands more delayed.

Tracking website FlightAware reports nearly 2,000 flights in and out of the United States were canceled and over 7,800 more were delayed.

The hardest hit was Delta Air Lines, with 1,089 cancellations and 1,413 delays worldwide.

Charleston International Airport saw 35 flights canceled and 38 flights delayed, according to FlightAware.

Officials from the cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said the global outage was caused by them uploading a “flawed software update” for its software on Microsoft Windows operating systems.
