Aiken County chosen by company Meta to be the first South Carolina data center [Video]

AIKEN COUNTY, Sc. (WJBF) – A globally recognized company is coming to Aiken County. Officials told us what they are looking forward to with this new partnership.

Governor Henry McMaster announced an $800 million deal with META to build a new Data Center in Sage Mill Industrial Park.

Meta data centers are part of the global infrastructure. The company powers services like Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. This will be the first center in South Carolina, the 22nd in the U.S., and the 26th in the world.

“This is the largest development we’ve had in Aiken County since the Bridgestone large tire plant. Also, at the Sage Mill Industrial Park. So, we’re very pleased that all these years of effort are coming to fruition,” said Gary Bunker, the Chairman of Aiken County Council.
