AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – The 70-year-old facility is showing its age, but the city is getting closer to building a new one from the ground up.
“This is going to be something that the community over the next 50-75 years is going to grow, and we have to be cognizant of that and keep pace,” said City Manager Stuart Bedenbaugh.
City Council met with project managers at Monday night’s meeting to hear about the progress that has been made.
Leaders got an update on the project back in April, and since then the focus has been obtaining the 5 required permits to start construction.
Goodwyn Mills & Cawood Rep Tony Reid says they have obtained permits from The SC Department of Health and Environmental Control, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and The SC Department of Transportation.
“The majority of the permits are obtained, and we’re waiting on two. Those two are outstanding–they’ve been submitted, but we’re just waiting for responses,” said Reid.
