Agri-Tourism roundtable event at IPRC Karongi in Rwanda

On August 27 2024, IPRC Karongi hosted a pivotal roundtable discussion to explore the potential of agri-tourism in the region. This event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from financial institutions, government agencies, academia, the private sector, and international organizations.

The roundtable was centered around the STIC concept in agri-tourism, an innovative approach developed under the Nuffic Orange Knowledge SEAD West project under the lead of Maastricht School of Management (MSM). The STIC, a Service Training and Innovation Centre, provides a platform for practical learning, research, and entrepreneurship in the agri-tourism sector.

The roundtable discussion underscored the crucial role of collaboration among all stakeholders in fostering a thriving agri-tourism ecosystem. Participants emphasized the need for a united front to achieve success in this growing sector.

Education and Training emerged as a key focus area. Equipping individuals with the necessary practical skills through targeted programs was deemed essential to ensure the success of agri-tourism ventures.

The roundtable also delved into strategies for improving market access for agri-tourism products. Discussions centered around creating sustainable job opportunities within the sector, ensuring its long-term viability.

Finally, the importance of sustainable practices in agri-tourism was highlighted. The roundtable participants recognized the need to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility for a flourishing future.

This event was part of the Nuffic TMT+ project “Strengthening the sustainability of the Service, Training and Innovation Centres (STIC), which MSM carried out in close collaboration with the Rwanda Polytechnic.

This project is part of the Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) which is funded by the Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and managed by Nuffic.
