Things that make you go “Hmmm” (#47): People who ride their bicycles without wearing a helmet, BUT have their helmets dangling from their handlebars.

I see teenagers doing this all the time. They put their helmets on when they leave the house for school, but the moment they turn the corner and are out of sight from their parents, they take the helmets off, dangle them from the handlebars, and ride the rest of the way to school with their heads unprotected.

I was told they do this because they don’t want to mess up their hair.

But on my bike ride the other day, I passed a grown man riding his bicycle, helmet dangling from the handlebars too. I was tempted to ask him why, but I didn’t. 

How dumb or regretful would he feel, I wondered, if he were hit by a car or lost his balance and …
