AARP teaches Lowcountry seniors how to avoid scams [Video]

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC)- AARP South Carolina hosted a free seminar as part of their Fraud Prevention Summer Series.

The seminar held Wednesday at Trident Technical College focused on strategies to avoid scams and what to do if you become a victim of fraud.

This event is one of several seminars being held throughout South Carolina this week. Guest speakers included representatives from AARP, the South Carolina Attorney General’s office and the Charleston Police Department.

James Jackson, a detective for the Charleston Police Department, shared the most popular local scams.

“Currently in the in the in the area, we’re seeing a lot of scams involving a missing jury duty and the pressure payments because these are people that have no criminal history,” Jackson said.
