A smoke alarm previously installed by firefighters alerted a Virginia Beach family to a fire in their mobile home [Video]

The fire displaced a family of three and their dog, but no injuries were reported.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Beach Fire Department says smoke alarms it installed during a community-wide smoke alarm install event last year may have saved a local family from a fire.

Three people, including a child, were displaced after the mobile home fire late Saturday.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department responded to the call at 10:44 p.m. in the Colony Mobile Home Park. They arrived at 10:50 to find light smoke coming from the back of the mobile home.

The fire was marked out at 11:15 p.m.

All of the occupants – two adults, one child and a dog – were able to evacuate the trailer safely due to being alerted by smoke alarms previously installed by the fire department and the American Red Cross during the event last June.
