COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -On Thursday, City officials said a project to build an oxygen aeration system in Prospect Lake is starting this week.
The compression system is being built at the lake located in Memorial Park to address the issue of toxic blue-green algae blooming in the water on hot days.
“It’s harmful to pets we’ve experienced fish kills, so we were looking at a long-term sustainable solution to bring and ensure the health of the lake, and that’s what this system will do,” said Kim King, Assistant Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services.
According to officials, Prospect Lake has no river or streams going through it, making it a still lake. This means it does not flow or move enough to supply enough oxygen for its ecosystem.
