A mobile phone donated to DV Safe Phone can offer a pathway out of domestic violence [Video]

A domestic violence charity is reporting a 29 per cent increase in people needing support, and calling on more people to consider donating their old mobile phones to help victims needing a new one.

DV Safe Phone founder Ashton Wood said the rise in domestic violence victims needing a new mobile phone from the charity was likely because more people were aware of the issue.

Australia-wide, the number of women killed in intimate partner violence has increased 28 per cent between 2021 and 2023.

The federal government announced earlier this year a $4.7 billion package to accelerate action to end gender-based violence.

Wood founded DV Safe Phone after being told of the growing need to provide victims fleeing home with a new phone.

Wood had several phones to donate but couldn’t drop them off anywhere during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
