The biggest shot for the 5th annual high school basketball Holiday Classic at Clinton Community College came in the first game of the tournament. With less than nine seconds to go, it was Beekmantown High School’s Garrett Pelkey who put in a putback layup, seemingly sealing a comeback effort against Franklin Academy High School to take the 59-58 lead. However, it was FA’s Brad Poupore who raced down the court and finished a timely layup with less than two seconds to retake the lead and win the contest 60-59 as the buzzer sounded. The Huskies built a 15-4 advantage by the end of the first quarter. Their perimeter shooting helped them to finish the first half up 33-20 over the Eagles. However, Beekmantown battled back with strong interior finishing and rebounding, winning the fourth quarter 15-6.
