Skater-Tot event takes over Town Square Park in Anchorage [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Families braved the chilly outdoor temperatures for icy fun at Town Square Park in Anchorage on Tuesday as the city held its first skater-tot event.

The evening kicked off with a few words thanking first responders for everything they do for the community and a ceremonial puck drop by Mayor Suza LaFrance.

Once the opening ceremony concluded it was time to hit the ice. If children didn’t have their skates or helmets they were able to borrow some from the city.

There were also hockey pucks and sliding seals kids could use for balance — once everyone got nice and chilly they were offered a cup of hot chocolate to warm up. While there were a lot of families, the hope is that more of the community will get involved with all future events.
