The scheduled appearance of Mohammed Hijab at a Burlington conference has prompted criticism.
Burlington residents are expressing concern about an upcoming speaking appearance by a controversial pro-Islamic activist.
Mohammed Hijab will be the featured guest at the Reviving Roots Conference scheduled for the Burlington Convention Centre on Feb. 24.
The British-based Hijab is an Oxford-schooled philosopher who lectures on religion, politics and society from an Islamic viewpoint. He has a large following on YouTube and is considered a social media influencer.
His topic for discussion is “Reclaiming the Muslim identity in a secular world.”
Critics have called him antisemitic and anti-Hindu and question his beliefs on the age of sexual consent. He has countered by saying the mainstream media does not fairly represent the views of Muslims which he is trying to express.
