City fills key economic development role WSOC TV [Video]

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte city government has promoted Alyson Craig, the city’s planning director, to become an assistant city manager and oversee economic development, beginning Feb. 1.

Craig will replace Tracy Dodson, who is leaving next week to become chief operating officer of the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance. Dodson joined the city in 2018.

As part of the shift, Craig will become interim economic development director while a search continues for that position.

Prior to Dodson’s departure, City Manager Marcus Jones decided to hire an economic development director rather than having Dodson continue to fill both roles — a move aimed at keeping Dodson over economic development while allowing more time for her to oversee the rest of her portfolio.
