The owners of Union Omaha will not build a $300 million soccer stadium and mixed-use development near the city’s riverfront as proposed, but club officials say they are looking for another downtown location.
It’s unclear why Alliance Sports Group dropped its plan to build a new home for its championship professional soccer team, along with housing, business and entertainment space, on the proposed 18-acre site, beside Abbott Drive between downtown and Eppley Airfield.
The property, adjacent to the Gallup University Riverfront Campus, is owned by a Gallup affiliate. Union Omaha’s owners had said when they and Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert announced the plan in January 2024 that Gallup had agreed to sell the site to them and that they hoped to start construction in fall 2024.
