Huntsville Variance Board denies request for supportive living center after community outcry | News [Video]

A proposal to transform a building in Bailey Cove into a supportive living center was denied by local officials, sparking relief among nearby residents.

That variance request would have allowed the conversion of a facility on Bailey Cove Road into a center designed to house individuals in recovery from addiction. Bradford Heath has dozens of these facilities across the Southeast, including rehab centers in Huntsville and Madison.

Bradford Health representatives stressed the facility would not function as a halfway house, methadone clinic, or medical recovery clinic. This facility would have implemented strict sobriety rules, requiring residents to be finished with inpatient rehab, maintain employment, have a curfew, have a limited 4-12 week stay, and undergo regular drug and alcohol screenings.
