President Donald Trump, who returned to office on Monday, has signed an executive order initiating the United States’ withdrawal from the World Health Organization.
The move has been met with global criticism, with the WHO expressing regret and urging the U.S. to reconsider its decision.
“The World Health Organization regrets the announcement that the United States of America intends to withdraw from the Organization,” the WHO said in a statement on Tuesday.
“We hope the United States will reconsider and we look forward to engaging in constructive dialogue to maintain the partnership between the USA and WHO, for the benefit of the health and well-being of millions of people around the globe,” it added.
