USD football introduces new head coach [Video]

VERMILLION, S.D. (KOTA) – University of South Dakota football fans went through all the emotions after head coach Bob Nielson announced he’d retire on Thursday. On Friday, AD Jon Schemmel introduced Defensive Coordinator Travis Johansen as his successor.

“The University of South Dakota is not for everybody,” Johannsen said at his introductory press conference. “It will not be for everybody. This is a place where we are looking to achieve at the very highest level. Where you come to South Dakota to sacrifice 48 to 60 months of your life to give up what you might have expected as a college athlete.”

Johansen was introduced less than 24 hours after Nielson stepped down, a decision he said was made at the “right time.”
